The existence of installations of Generating Groups in different locations near the ports such as the keys makes it necessary to have suitable vessels for the fuel supply. So it was decided to convert the barges that were used for the molasses transportation (called APPLE non self-propelled) to turn them into self-propelled tank barges. The design was carried out by the CDC specialists and approved by the classification society Cuban Ship Registry (RCB).
- The most significant details of the conversion are the following:
- •The bow was transformed into stern.
- •A block was added in the old stern to turn it into the new bow.
- •An outboard propeller Schottel Navigator was installed
- •A new larger accommodation house with a bridge was added
- •A new cofferdam to the bow of the new fourth pump room # 2 was added.
